Indie Pen Press is pleased to announce the release of two new titles on the Gospel of Matthew, published together and designed to work together.

They are the first of a planned four-Gospel collection.

Expository Thoughts on the Gospel of Matthew (Annotated)

A Modernized Edition of J.C. Ryle’s Classic Commentary, with New Foreword and Biography
Edited by Richard French

J.C. Ryle published his Expository Thoughts on the Gospels in 1856, writing for ordinary working people rather than for scholars. The books have never gone out of print. What has aged is the language, not the thinking.

This edition gently updates the archaic vocabulary and the King James wording Ryle quotes, while leaving his own sentences, rhythm, and theology exactly as he wrote them. Every editorial change was logged and verified against the 1860 printing, and the method is documented in a new foreword. The edition also includes a new biography of Ryle drawn from cited historical sources.

The Gospel of Matthew: A 28-Week Study Workbook

For Groups, Individuals, and Families
By Richard French

An original study workbook covering one chapter of Matthew each week. Every week follows the same path: the chapter’s central claim in one paragraph, a reading from Ryle printed in full, observation questions on the text, three movements to name, discussion questions, one application to write down, and space to journal.

Three reading tracks are built in: the full 28 weeks, a 13-week track, and an 8-week track. Every chapter also includes The Family Fifteen, a complete fifteen-minute plan for reading and discussing Matthew at home with children.

The workbook is complete in itself and requires no other book.
